On her new blog, she will be sharing with you all kinds of anecdotes about her personal experiences with sustainability. We’re hoping you can learn from her many anecdotes, tips and tricks, as well as common mistakes she hopes to help you prevent on your own journey to shrinking your carbon footprint.

While I’ve spent most of my life working in the environmental field, my true calling and passion is education. I consider myself a mediator who has always had my foot in two worlds.
I studied climate science and sustainability as an undergrad while playing collegiate basketball. Not that the two are mutually exclusive, but the cultures were (and continue to be) very different. I worked hard to bring my passion for the environment into my world of athletics. [/content_band]
The Buzz at Eco Karma
Here are some of our latest articles that have been published or updated recently.
Cloth Diapering has Caught On
Trends come and go in waves, and this latest one we thing will probably (and hopefully) be sticking around for a while. Cloth Diapering is nothing new, but the cloth diapers of today are nothing like they used to be, and deciding to go with cloth diapers over disposables can be an overwhelming task.
That’s what we’re here for.
This latest article was put together by an expectant mother, and she has done all the research for you, including cost comparison! Not only does her article cover the basics of cloth diaper types, but she also gives her suggestions for brands, and includes a FAQ. Check it out, and be sure to share with any expectant parents that are considering cloth diapers as a cost saving, and more environmentally friendly choice.
Join the Reusable Water Bottle Movement
We’re pretty impressed with how far reusable water bottles have come, and we feel confident you will be, too. Our reviews include all types: stainless steel, vacuum insulated, glass, infused, filtered, and more. If you are looking for a new bottle or a gift for a friend, read the article and share!
This article is a lot more than just a list of best water bottles. We’ve really dived in to what many of these companies are doing to help educate the public about the harm of disposable water bottles, to go cups, and plastic in general. Some of them have started their own movements, as well as donating to causes that help protect our earth. We were also impressed with the dedication to providing access to clean water to those who have none.
Guest Post of the Month
This month we have for you an article about Rainwater Harvesting and how to get started. It lists all of the components that you will need, and what to look for in them. We highly recommend this read, and might be adding more content to it in the future. Keep your eyes peeled!
Update and Upgrade
Here our a few suggested reads from our site that have been around for a while, but were recently updated to include some new products and information.
Here are some of our favorite articles from around the web.
Plastic and Marine Animals
Dive deeper into the harm that plastic waste is causing to our marine animals. This topic is what truly inspired us to write our article about reusable water bottles, as it’s been in the news A LOT lately, and it’s discouraging to say the least. That’s why we are doing what we can to help educate about ways to reduce plastic ways and things you can do to stay proactive.
This article on the BBC explains why marine animals keep consuming plastic, and why they won’t stop as long as it’s in their environment.
London’s Latte Levy
Starbucks is testing out a new campaign in the battle against waste. Some branches in London will be charging extra for those who need a disposable cup. They’re doing this in hopes that it will encourage people to bring their own cups. However, it might not be enough of a price bump to impact people more than adding a few extra grumbles of dissatisfaction.
That being said, we are very curious to see if this leads to them implementing the policy company wide, or at least over to the states. It’s also something we’d like to see other coffee companies get on board with, as well. Read more here.
A Minimalist Read
After reading this review, The Year of Less by Cait Flanders is now on our must read list. Follow the journey of a finance blogger who implements a “shopping ban” on herself for a year. This review notes that it’s more than just about saving money and resources, it’s also about mental health and finding balance- something we can really get behind.
If you’ve already read the book we want to hear from you. Let us know what you think in the comment section, or send us an email using our contact form.
